The 2009 Eric Walter Memorial Open was run on 5th April, with a strong turnout of 170 riders. Thanks once again to the tireless work of the club executive and works committees, the event was a resounding success and was conducted without serious incident. Considering the fact that the Chidlow track has not received any significant rainfall for around 5 months (making ongoing track maintenance extremely difficult), the Eric Walter Park circuit provided great high-speed racing for all age groups. With surface conditions changing from wet (thanks to the continued support by Chidlow Water Carriers) to dry and dusty several times throughout the course of the day, successful riders had to be extremely adaptable and change their riding styles and racing lines as conditions constantly varied. While there were naturally a few get-offs during the day, only one rider was hospitalised with a minor concussion.
A special thanks goes to all those who gave (and continually give) their time in preparing and running events such as this, and to the club's numerous sponsors who continue to support us in times of financial pressure. Literally hundreds of hours of preparation and execution go into running each WAJMCC event, all for your kids. |
